The Registrar General’s Department commemorated its 110th anniversary with an award ceremony under the patronage of Governor General, Her Excellency the Most Hon. Dame Cynthia Pratt, May 22, 2025. The event, recognizing the long service of 29 employees, was held in the ballroom of Government House at Mount Fitzwilliam.
In attendance were: Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Senator the Hon. Ryan Pinder; Registrar General Camille Gomez-Jones; Assistant Registrar General Dellareese Grant; former registrars, justices of the Supreme Court, members of the clergy and other senior government officials. Secretary to the Governor General, Jack Thompson, served as Master of Ceremonies.
While delivering the keynote address, Attorney General, Senator Ryan Pinder thanked the staff for their commitment and dedication to the department over the years and congratulated the 29 long-serving employees, whose tenures ranged between 14 – 36 years. “I wish to thank all of you who provided essential services to the Bahamian people for these past few decades,” he said. “The department has provided deeds, conveyances, birth and death certificates and marriage licences. Records dating as far back as the 1900’s and possibly even the 1800s have been archived at the Registrar. There is no doubt that the department plays a vital role in our history.”
He said the department underpins all genres of society: “Ensuring records are preserved well is the job of all these professionals, 29 of whom were recognized today.” He told them the knowledge and experience they have is invaluable.
Mr. Pinder also told them that even more is expected out of them as the department continues with modernizing the department with digital expansion. He encouraged them to continue to pursue education and training as the department ventures into protecting intellectual property rights and the impending onboarding of Land Registry once the land reform acts are passed, which he hinted would be enacted by the end of the year.
