Former colleagues and friends of Darold Miller remembered the fallen journalist on Monday.
Veteran journalist, former Press Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister and close friend of Miller, Anthony Newbold said he was one of the best newsmen the country has ever seen. “Five Ws and the H, fundamentally sound but he did it his way.”
Newbold added of Miller, “he knew what he wanted to do and he was committed to excellence. And if you weren’t committed to excellence you were not going to last around him very long.”
Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis released a statement on Sunday also paying tribute to Darold Miller. Mr. Davis called Miller “a national treasure and a cherished voice in our country.” He also said, “beyond the airwaves and the studio, Darold was a man of great personal character. He was fiercely loyal, warm-hearted, and always willing to lend a hand to those in need. His sense of humor, his generosity, and his deep love for this country were evident in everything he did. Those who knew him personally knew of his kindness and his commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others.”
During his career, Darold Miller hosted talk shows on various radio stations in the capital including Love 97, Guardian Radio and ZNS Radio. He also served as Deputy General Manager of News and Current Affairs at the Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas. Miller retired as host of the Darold Miller Live talk show in 2023. Miller was best known for his reporting of the Straw Market fire in 2001, his commentary of general elections and his catch phrase ‘lively and provocative’.
Miller was found dead in his home on Minnie Street on Sunday afternoon. He was 69 years old.
