Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Sen. Hon. Ryan Pinder contributed to debate on amendments to the National Crime Intelligence Agency Act on Monday.
During his presentation Pinder spoke to the government’s success in closing cases in recent years. He said, “the commitment that we have made to the Department of Public Prosecutions and the criminal justice system has shown results. Where we have seen enhanced convictions and enhanced guilty pleas and more cases being disposed of in a timely manner. In 2023, for example, we disposed of 162 criminal matters in the Supreme Court. Last that would have been with a stable of thirty some prosecutors. In 2024 we are continuing to maintain that momentum in closing out criminal prosecutions. It’s one thing to start a case, its an entirely different things to end a case. And our goal is to close out these cases and move them through the system and let justice be served.”
