Minister of Works and Family Island Affairs, the Hon. Clay Sweeting provided an update on the demolitions of shanty towns on Wednesday.
He told reporters, “the unregulated task force, community task force, was in Eleuthera last week. They did assessments in Tarpum Bay, Palmetto Point, Blackwood as well as Russell Island and also to give notice to areas that needed the thirty day notice before demolition. The team should be in Andros next week to assess the shanty town there and in the next few weeks you’ll see demolition occur in two sites in New Providence.”
The minister said that government will be dealing with people who building on lands without the needed permits on land that they do not own. He assured that the process is ongoing.
