A wreath laying ceremony was held at the gravesite of the late Rt. Hon. Sir Lynden Pindling to mark the 25th anniversary of his passing.
Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis and other officers of the Progressive Liberal Party accompanied Dame Marguerite Pindling on Tuesday morning to St. Agnes Graveyard on Nassau Street where Sir Lynden is buried.
Dame Marguerite said the wreath laying ceremony was important to ensure that Sir Lynden’s legacy is remembered. She also encouraged Bahamians to keep fighting. “Don’t let go, don’t look back, looking back is death. We’re going forward,” she said.
Prime Minister Davis expressed gratitude for the foundations laid by Sir Lynden, who served as Prime Minister for twenty five years. He said, “I want to thank him for the legacy that he left behind. I want to thank him for inspiring a young boy like myself, placing trust in me when many others didn’t during my sojourn with him on this earth. I also want to thank Dame Marguerite Pindling for continuing to ensure that the memories and the legacy of your life continues to reign and not forgotten by many.”
Mr. Davis continued by saying though Sir Lynden may no longer be with us he lives on in our minds and memories.
Sir Lynden was the first black Premier and first Prime Minister of the country. He led the fight to Majority Rule and Independence. Sir Lynden died on August 26th, 2000.
