The Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support Group celebrated its 25th Anniversary with a heartfelt Prayer Breakfast that brought together survivors, supporters, and partners in the fight against breast cancer.
Introduced by Canaan Johnson, the morning was highlighted by a moving message from guest speaker Pastor Fanchon Braynen, whose words of encouragement and faith resonated deeply. Even young Canaan’s poised and confident delivery was applauded by attendees. His thoughtful introduction was a reminder that even the youngest voices can contribute meaningfully to the ongoing fight for breast cancer awareness and support.
During the program, President Shantell Hutchinson presented plaques of recognition to several key individuals whose vision and dedication shaped the foundation of Sister Sister: Yvette Williams, the group’s first President; Nurse Charlene McPhee, Founder; Dr. Locksley Munroe, Founder; and Dr. Charles Diggiss, Founder. Ciarra Diggiss was also honored with the President’s Award for her unwavering support. Their contributions were warmly celebrated as the group reflected on 25 years of service, advocacy, and support.
As a testament to the work being done, Ms. Lashae Rolle shared her survivor’s journey – one marked by resilience and faith. Her story served as a reminder that the road to wellness is paved, not only by the medical community, but also by organizations that walk alongside women in their fight. Extending that same compassion, she presented two survivors with care baskets, each a tangible token of the love and sisterhood that define the mission of Sister Sister.
In addition to honoring those who built the organization, Nicolette Clarke accepted the Warriors Award on behalf of Ports International for the support they’ve offered over the years. This year, to raise awareness, Ports has invited all medical institutions to join their pink gloves initiative – encouraging healthcare workers to wear pink gloves throughout October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Part proceeds from the campaign will be donated to Sister Sister, furthering the group’s mission of providing hope and support to women battling breast cancer.
To round out the day’s celebration, attendees of the Sister Sister Prayer Breakfast had the opportunity to shop with featured vendors offering cancer awareness memorabilia, including Italia Brennen and her team, whose displays added a vibrant element to the event. For the second consecutive year, Carole Barnett and her crew from Bahari came out to support, underscoring the importance of corporate and community collaboration in raising awareness and sustaining the cause.
As they celebrate 25 years, the Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support Group continues to stand as a beacon of encouragement and strength for women across The Bahamas, proving that together, survivorship is not just possible, but powerful..
