Press Release
The recent reports of suicide in our country have touched the hearts of many Bahamians and serve as a sobering reminder of the importance of mental health, compassion, and community support.
On behalf of the Ministry of Social Services, I extend sincere condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones affected by these tragic losses. During times such as these, it is important that we come together as a nation to support one another and to encourage those who may be struggling to seek help.
Mental health challenges can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, background, or circumstance. No one should feel that they must face life’s difficulties alone. Reaching out for help is a sign of strength, and support is available.
The Ministry of Social Services encourages anyone experiencing emotional distress, feelings of hopelessness, or thoughts of self-harm to speak with a trusted family member, friend, faith leader, counselor, or mental health professional.
Individuals in crisis may also contact the National Suicide Prevention Hotline:
Phone: (242) 322-2763 or 422-2763
Hours: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Services: Crisis intervention and counseling support
Let us continue to look out for one another, listen without judgment, and foster a culture where seeking help is welcomed and encouraged. Together, we can save lives and strengthen the well-being of our communities.
