During her mid-year crime statistics presentation Commissioner of Police, Shanta Knowles confirmed that suicides and attempted suicides have increased.

Knowles said, “I can report that by mid-year 2025 suicides rose to eight cases from five in 2024. All eight cases were male victims. Likewise, attempted suicides increased by 39% with 32 cases by mid-year 2025 compared to 23 cases over the same period for 2024. The leading motives of these types of incidents based on our preliminary reports includes depression and anxiety, persons undesirous of living and relationship issues. The mid-year number of these types of cases are trending higher than in previous years.
