TA Thompson Jr High Back To School

Bahamian Media News:

One of the schools visited by Minister of Education and Technical and Vocational Training, the Hon. Glenys Hanna Martin on the first day of the new school year was T. A. Thompson Junior High School.

Hanna Martin along with the school’s Principal, Ismael Smith welcomed the seventh grade students to the school.  Smith spoke with ZNS News about the successful performance of students in this year’s BJC results.  He said, “our goal was to improve our A to D passes by 3 to 5%. Based on what we’ve done we’ve exceeded that.  We have improved the A to D passes by close to 13% and so that was great.”

Smith attributes this examination success to teachers going the extra mile and meeting the students where they are.

Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the School Policing Program, Dr. Chaswell Hanna accompanied the education minister on the visit.  He said, “we have 60 plus trained SROs (School Resource Officers).  We have SROs in all of the junior and senior high schools across the nation and we’re looking to build out this program in the primary schools.

For her part, Minister Hanna Martin said she feels optimistic about the future.
