The Governor General’s Legacy Hall

Bahamian Media News:

Governor General, Her Excellency the Most Hon. Dame Cynthia Pratt officially opened her legacy hall on Monday. The building, filled with photos and memorabilia of the life of Dame Cynthia, is located on Poinciana Avenue and Sixth Street in Coconut Grove.

A ceremony was held to commemorate the opening of the hall. The Governor General told attendees, “I want you to understand it was not always this way. What you see is totally different from the path in which we’ve come. Many people don’t want to talk about their past, but that’s the only way I’m gonna motivate you and let you know understand, yes I was once there but I didn’t stay there. My mother didn’t have it. I can’t blame her she just didn’t have it. But I knew inside there was something.”

Dame Cynthia cut the ribbon of the new building alongside Deputy Prime Minister, the Hon. Chester Cooper and Mrs. Cecelia Cooper. She served as the first female Deputy Prime Minister and is currently the 11th Governor General of The Bahamas.

The Governor General expressed to the students in the crowd at the opening that it’s not where you are it’s where you are going. “Don’t let anybody tell you you will never make it because you will. You will make it, inside of you, it’s there. And so you don’t give up. You fall down but get up,” she said.
