President of the Trade Union Congress, Obie Ferguson held a press event on Monday where it was announced that members of his organization would not participate in the Labour Day Parade scheduled for June 6th.
Ferguson raised a number of issues questioning how the Minister of Labour and the Public Service can serve in both positions simultaneously. He also criticized the minimum wage which currently stands at $260. He said, “if I go for dinner tonight and he dinner cost five hundred something…how you’re going to tell me $260 is adequate for a family of four.”
According to the umbrella union the Labour Day March is political.
