Women United Celebrates International Women’s Day by Investing in the Next Generation with “SheBelongs at the Table” Mentorship Experience

Bahamian Media News:

This International Women’s Day, the global call was clear: progress is fueled by collaboration and anchored in justice. To honor this mandate, Women United successfully hosted its 2026 initiative, “She
Belongs at the Table,” an intimate and transformative Lunch & Learn empowerment experience held this
afternoon at Latitudes Restaurant.

By centering this year’s efforts on intentional, intergenerational mentorship, Women United embraced this year’s IWD theme “Give to Gain”. Under the “Give to Gain” mandate, organizations were charged to recognize that our individual success is inextricably linked to the success of others. This theme called on us to bridge the gap through the generous exchange of wisdom and resources, ensuring that as we climb, we reach back to pull others upward.

“At Women United, this is not just a slogan nor is it a one-time sentiment. It is the very heartbeat of our mission. It is what we do everyday both inside and outside of WU,” said Lisa Bostwick-Dean, President of Women United.

“By hosting ‘She Belongs at the Table,’ we answered the IWD’s 2026 charge to ‘Give to Gain’ charge by creating a space where our collective experience became a stepping stone for the next generation. ”
The “She Belongs at the Table” event moved away from traditional large-scale celebrations in favor of deep, relational impact. The initiative brought together Board members, other leading women in our community and several young ladies from various backgrounds for a structured afternoon of dialogue designed to inspire them to be resilient, recognize their growth and self-worth, make good decisions, and set ambitious future goals.

Highlights from the afternoon included:

  • Reflective Storytelling: Mentors shared “When I Was 17” reflections, offering vulnerable lessons on
resilience and growth to the young attendees.
  • Intentional Mentorship: Guided table conversations focused on building self-worth, mastering decision- making, and setting ambitious future goals.
  • Visionary Reflection: In a moving activity, participants wrote “Letters to My Future Self,” addressed to
the women they hope to become by age 25.
  • Affirmation Circle: The event concluded with a powerful circle of encouragement, where mentors
offered words of affirmation to solidify the participants’ sense of belonging and potential.
Women United created a safe, professional, and inspiring environment that fostered genuine growth. The initiative reflects the organization’s unwavering commitment to practical empowerment—investing directly in the next generation to ensure the progress made today becomes the standard for tomorrow.
