High School students from the Flamingo Gardens community were among the first graduates of the Community Affairs Division of the Ministry of Social Services, Information and Broadcasting’s inaugural 12-week “I Have the Power” Programme.
The life purpose and transformation coaching programme is designed to: “assist high school students push past who they are, and focus on whom they wish to become,” according to Undersecretary in the Ministry, Ms. Donette Williamson.
Created, developed and facilitated by the Community Affairs Division, the Programme is an integral part of the Ministry’s Stronger Families, Stronger Communities, Stronger Bahamas Initiative which involves the design and implementation of various programmes to empower families across all communities, ages and abilities.
Undersecretary Williamson applauded the participants, their parents, Presenters, and organizers for making the inaugural session a success.
“It warms my heart to be here to witness this type of event (because) it gives promise,” Undersecretary Williamson said during the Closing Ceremony. “Oftentimes we only hear about the negative acts of some of our young people, but standing here and looking at your wonderful, beautiful, faces; being able to witness that, at this stage of your lives, you have chosen to invest in yourselves, to empower yourselves, gives hope that our country will be placed in the hands of wonderful people, good leaders, people who understand the importance of upgrading themselves, of investing in themselves.”
Undersecretary Williamson told the graduates that the skills-building training they received will provide them with the resources to face future challenges.
“When challenges come up against you, and believe me, they will come, I want you to draw from the skills that you were taught here over the past 12 weeks. Use those lessons to tap into your greatness. This will help you to become better leaders and mentors in your communities.
“Once again, congratulations for doing the work to improve yourselves. This programme was designed with creating leaders in mind, and so we are looking forward to great things from each and every one of you. I also take this opportunity to thank and congratulate all of the parents for supporting your children as they took this journey of self-transformation. Thank you for believing in our vision to transform the mindsets of your children and help them become their best selves.”
The 12-week programme was hosted at the Good News Seventh-day Adventist Church, Flamingo Gardens, led by Pastor Henry Moncur.
“We applaud Pastor Moncur and his team for their partnership and dedication. We look forward to further strengthening these partnerships across communities for the benefit of our children and our communities,” Undersecretary Williamson added.
