The Insurance Commission of The Bahamas welcomed officers of the Royal Bahamas Police Force to Silk Cotton House for a comprehensive Insurance Awareness, Compliance and Enforcement Training Session aimed at strengthening collaboration between regulators and law enforcement. The session focused on protecting consumers, combating fraud, and maintaining confidence in The Bahamas’ insurance sector
through practical training in regulatory oversight, insurance principles, compliance obligations,
fraud detection, anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing measures, and industry
enforcement.
Presenters highlighted the role of insurance in protecting individuals, businesses, and the wider
Bahamian economy, while underscoring the importance of accurate accident reporting, evidence
preservation, and timely information sharing. Sessions addressed common forms of insurance
fraud, regulatory breaches, investigative powers, market conduct standards, and the legal
processes through which insurance-related offences may move from investigation to prosecution.
Officers also engaged in practical case studies and discussions based on real-world scenarios
involving both the Commission and the Police Force.
The initiative reinforced the current working relationship between the Commission and the Royal
Bahamas Police Force and advanced a coordinated national approach to identifying, preventing,
and investigating unlawful activity within the insurance sector. By deepening officers’
understanding of insurance legislation, regulatory requirements, and emerging risks, including
financial crime and cyber-enabled fraud, the training supports stronger compliance, safeguards
policyholders, and helps preserve the integrity of The Bahamas’ financial services environment.
Speaking on the importance of the initiative, Dana L. Munnings-Gray, Superintendent of Insurance,
said: “The partnership between the Insurance Commission of The Bahamas and the Royal
Bahamas Police Force is essential to ensuring a fair, transparent, and resilient insurance
marketplace. Through education, collaboration, and information sharing, we are equipping law
enforcement officers with the knowledge needed to recognize insurance-related offences, support
