Press Release
The start of May marked a major milestone for Cat Island with the official opening of the Arthur’s Town Airport, powered by advanced telecommunications infrastructure from BTC. The company also began rolling out BTC Air, its next-generation connectivity solution, bringing enhanced digital services to residents across the island.
As the government’s trusted partner on the project, BTC equipped Arthur’s Town Airport with a full suite of services, including voice PBX systems, IPTV on demand, and high-speed broadband connectivity. During the installation process, BTC also conducted critical infrastructure repairs across the island to further strengthen network reliability.
BTC’s CEO, Sameer Bhatti, who attended the opening, confirmed that services across Cat Island have now been fully stabilized. “Over the past several days, our teams completed maintenance across all mobile cell sites on the island, making key infrastructure enhancements where needed,” said Bhatti. “We also restored fiber connectivity across multiple locations including Port Howe and The Bluff, significantly improving the overall network experience for our customers.”
BTC’s technical teams also made significant progress on additional infrastructure, completing installations at the second airport in New Bight ahead of its opening.
In parallel with these developments, BTC successfully launched its first BTC Air installations on the island. One of the first recipients was the Old Bight Mission Home for Children, which now benefits from high-speed internet, landline services, and access to over 160 on-demand television channels. BTC also donated several tablets to support the children’s learning and development.
Cindy Moss, Administrator of the home expressed her gratitude, “On behalf of the children and staff, we thank BTC for this thoughtful donation. The service along with the tablets will open new doors for learning, creativity, and connection, and will make a meaningful difference in the lives of our children.”
The installation was completed by Cat Island’s newest technician, Rayvon Moncur, who recently completed advanced BTC Air training in Eleuthera. Moncur joins a growing team of technicians from Andros, Long Island, Exuma, and Eleuthera working to upgrade customers across the Family Islands. Eleuthera is already more than 75% upgraded, with full completion expected in the coming weeks.
Bhatti added, “Visiting the Old Bight Home and seeing the impact firsthand was truly inspiring. BTC Air reinforces our commitment to ensuring that reliable internet access is universal and not exclusive. We are transforming how communities across the Family Islands live, learn, and work, with Bimini leading the way.”
BTC continues to drive forward its vision of a fully connected Bahamas, ensuring that no matter the island’s size or location, every community has access to world class digital experiences.
