Insurance Superintendent Strengthens International Insurance & Education Partnerships in Iowa

Recently, The Insurance Superintendent of The Bahamas, Mrs. Dana Munnings-Gray of the Insurance Commission of The Bahamas (ICB), completed an official visit to Drake University in Iowa, where she engaged with students pursuing studies in actuarial science, risk management, and other insurance-related disciplines.

During the visit, Superintendent Munnings-Gray shared valuable insights on the evolving global insurance landscape, the importance of innovation and regulation, and the growing opportunities
available within the insurance industry for emerging professionals across the Caribbean and
internationally.

She also hosted a special luncheon in honor of the students, creating an environment for mentorship, professional dialogue, and meaningful engagement. As part of her academic and institutional engagements, Superintendent Munnings-Gray also met with Dean Brown of Drake University’s John Dee Bright College, where discussions focused on academic pathways, talent development, and strengthening educational linkages between The Bahamas and institutions advancing insurance, business, and professional education.

In addition, Superintendent Munnings-Gray met with President Marty Martin of Drake University, where discussions centered on institutional collaboration, leadership development, and expanding opportunities for student exchange and professional growth within insurance and
related fields.

Recognized as one of the leading insurance hubs in the United States, Iowa has long been regarded as a center for insurance excellence, housing major insurance institutions and fostering some of the nation’s strongest actuarial and insurance education programs. The visit provided an important opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and ideas between The Bahamas and one of the world’s most respected insurance jurisdictions.

As part of her official engagement, Superintendent Munnings-Gray also met with Doug Ommen, Insurance Commissioner of Iowa, to discuss regulatory collaboration, emerging industry trends, and the exchange of best practices within the insurance sector. Discussions also focused on strengthening international cooperation and fostering greater cross-pollination of insurance education, research, and regulatory learning across jurisdictions.

This engagement underscores The Bahamas’ continued commitment through the Insurance Commission of The Bahamas (ICB) to developing future industry talent, expanding global partnerships, and positioning the country as an active participant in the advancement of insurance education and regulatory excellence worldwide.
