No Selling Of Alcohol Between 8-6PM Election Day

Bahamian Media News:

The law prohibits the sale of alcohol on election day. One liquor store owner explained to ZNS News how he is dealing with the loss of sales on May 12th.

Base Road Liquor Store Proprietor, George Robinson told ZNS News, “we are preparing for it. We are stocking up because on Monday everybody is going to stock up because they know the bars are closed during election hours. Now I don’t know it is going to make any difference because what they normally do, they stock up on Monday, they have liquors available in their cars and their home. So its not going to really stop them from drinking.”

Robinson said during the election campaign he has added a blue cup to the red one he usually gives out.

The alcohol sales prohibition applies to liquor stores, bars, restaurants, hotels, casinos and private islands. During a press conference on Monday, Commissioner of Police, Shanta Knowles warned liquor distributors to not put their license in jeopardy.
