The Public Hospitals Authority (PHA) has officially commissioned its Blood Bank Mobile Unit, marking a major step forward in expanding access to lifesaving blood donation services across New Providence and the Family Islands.
The commissioning ceremony, held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at the PHA Corporate Office, brought together healthcare leaders, government officials, and stakeholders committed to improving national health outcomes.
Delivering remarks, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville emphasized the importance of accessible and reliable blood donation systems in saving lives and strengthening healthcare delivery across the country. Chairman Andrew Edwards noted that the mobile unit represents a strategic investment in healthcare infrastructure, designed to meet the growing demand for blood while making donation more convenient for communities.
Managing Director Aubynette Rolle highlighted that the unit will significantly increase the PHA’s capacity to host blood drives, allowing the team to reach more donors in workplaces, schools, churches, and community spaces.
“This mobile unit brings the blood bank to the people,” she shared. “It allows us to meet donors where they are, while ensuring safe, efficient, and accessible collection processes.”
The unit will play a critical role in supporting blood drives throughout New Providence and expanding outreach to the Family Islands, helping to address ongoing national needs for blood supply in emergency care, surgeries, and ongoing treatment for patients.
Pastor Jevon Neely offered a blessing over the unit, recognizing the vital role it will play in saving lives and serving communities across the country.
The Public Hospitals Authority continues to encourage all eligible Bahamians to become voluntary blood donors, reinforcing that a strong, reliable blood supply depends on the collective commitment
of the community.
